After a first convoy of 27 vehicles was delivered to the Ukrainians on 26 March, the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior are once again drawing on the solidarity of departmental fire and rescue services.

Thanks to this exceptional and ongoing mobilization, on 15 April a second convoy organized by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior will deliver to Romania reponse vehicles and equipment that will be provided to Ukraine’s Emergency Situations Service, mobilized day and night to provide relief to victims.

A hundred firefighters, navy firefighters and rescue workers will deliver the vehicles and equipment provided – 12 fire engines and 12 rescue vehicles – to the border with Ukraine on 15 April. They will also deliver four lorries carrying 50 tonnes of equipment, in particular for search and rescue (victim-location equipment and drilling, cutting and extrication equipment) and firefighting (protective equipment, hand ladders, fire hoses and equipment for fighting hydrocarbon fires). Some of the equipment was bought with contributions from local authorities and businesses to the dedicated support funds set up by the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs’ Crisis and Support Centre.

The operation is being coordinated by the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate for Civil Protection and Crisis Management and the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs’ Crisis and Support Centre, in conjunction with our embassy in Ukraine.

These operations, carried out under the EU Civil Protection Mechanism (UCPM), testify to the solidarity of France, its local authorities and businesses with the Ukrainian people.
