Abnormal dryness and drought conditions strengthen in parts of East and Southern Africa

Africa Weather Hazards

  1. Below-average rainfall during the rainy season has led to severe drought in southern Madagascar.

  2. Widespread seasonal moisture deficits have caused abnormal dryness and drought in parts of Mozambique.

  3. Despite recent heavy rainfall, long-term below-average rainfall has caused abnormal dryness and drought in northwestern Namibia and southwestern Angola.

  4. Several consecutive weeks of below-average rainfall has strengthened dryness in the Greater Horn of Africa.

  5. Heavy rainfall prevailed across northeastern South Africa triggering flash floods. Next week, a continuation of heavy rainfall is forecast which may worsen previously flooded areas.
