This report is produced by OCHA Syria in collaboration with humanitarian partners.
On 20 January, an attack on Sina’a prison in Al-Hasakeh city resulted in rapidly escalating hostilities with gun fire and explosions reported from the area.
Civilian casualties and injuries have been reported, although the numbers have not been confirmed.
Up to 45,000 people have been displaced from their homes to other neighborhoods in the city. Most people are sheltering with family or friends. Some 750 people are being hosted at two temporary shelters.
The humanitarian priority is to rapidly scale-up emergency assistance, particularly food assistance and non-food items (NFI’s) as sub-zero conditions were reported this week across Syria.
