INDONESIA: The Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation Center (PVMBG) says the intensity of the Mount Bromo volcanic eruptions has dissipated following a powerful blast on Thursday.
The Thursday blast, defined as a Strombolian eruption, was relatively harmless because it only expelled lava 90 meters into the air, PVMBG monitoring and investigation head Indrasto said.
"It was like fireworks coming out of the crater to the sky," Indrasto said, as quoted by state news agency Antara on Saturday.
Indrasto said falling volcanic ash from the Thursday eruption was still visible in East Java's villages surrounding Bromo, such as Ngadisari village, which is located roughly 5 kilometers from the crater.
"Let's just hope the eruptions would continue to decline so that people living in the surrounding villages can get back to their activities," he said. - JP
