In August 2021, 9 different hazards took place across Bangladesh i.e. Covid- 19 , riverbank erosion, boat capsize, heavy rainfall, embankment collapse, lightning, bridge collapse, flood, and fire. Among them, the most devastating COVID19 affected a total of 2,50,065 persons across the country among which 5,510 persons died and 3,47,776 persons recovered according to the national report of August 2021. In terms of death, Lightning was another severe hazard that took the life of 25 persons and injured 21 in 9 districts. NDRCC Disaster Situation Report and different dailies reported a total of 272 incidences of Fire in which 7 people died and 8 sustained injuries. Bridge collapsed in one district which resulted in the death of 1 person while injured 4 more.
In 8 districts, 27 people died and 11 people went missing due to Boat Capsize. Riverbank Erosion took place in Potuakhali, Jhalokathi, Bhola, and Lalmonirhat districts with huge loss of lives, properties, crops, and croplands.
Moreover, Heavy Rainfall in 5 districts and caused severe waterlogging and huge loss of croplands, and millions of taka loss due to flooded fish ponds. Embankment Collapsed in Feni, Bogura, and Rangpur districts. Due to the Flood in 4 districts- Rajbari, Cox’s Bazar, Bogra, and Kurigram, a total of 18765 households were affected along with an embankment and 30 km of road damaged partially.
