On 11 June, media reported heavy rains in the department of Antioquia that caused the overflow of the Tigüí and Nechí rivers, affecting more than 60% of the population and 700 families. A public state of emergency was declared by the Mayor’s Office of El Bagre. In the townships of Puerto Claver and Puerto López, flooding caused 18 families to evacuate to the Las Delicias School. In the Piedras Blancas and Portugal neighborhoods, 60 families were evacuated from their homes. The Army and the Civil Defense are providing humanitarian aid and are collecting donations for those affected as 50% of victims have lost all their belongings. In addition to El Bagre, the municipalities of Dabeiba, Nare, and Caracolí have also been affected by the heavy rainfall. In Dabeiba, an overflow of the Cantarra and Caracol streams on 9 June destroyed 6 homes in the Antioquia, Las Brisas, Arenera, and Juan H neighborhoods and damaged another 45 homes. The heavy rains also caused landslides in the Godó sector which caused road closures between Mutatá and Dabeiba. In Puerto Nare, flooding in the August 4 neighborhood in the La Sierra district affected 42 families and caused a minor landslide. The Nechí river basin and its surrounding areas remain on red alert due to flood risk especially in the municipalities of Nechí, El Bagre, Segovia, and Saragossa. The report is available at: Infobae.
