Initiated by H2H Network member CartONG and hosted by ALNAP, the IM Resource Portal went live earlier today: https://www.im-portal.org/

This portal is a one-stop-shop platform where aid actors at all levels can quickly and easily access high quality, practical and strategic resources on Information Management (IM) in English and French.

What do you mean when you say “Information Management”?

Information Management (or Programme Data Management to be more specific) is understood here as the full range of processes, methodologies, and tools required for the various stages in the programme data analysis chain - that is, from the collection of data to the decision-making process internal to aid organisations to which the said data contributes.

The portal therefore focuses on technical and technological subtopics of Information Management such as mapping, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), data processing and Mobile Data Collection, but not only.

It also covers larger topics such as data literacy, responsible data, Open Data and data quality, as well as cross cutting approaches such as IM needs evaluations, IM organizational strategies, or the imbrication of IM and Monitoring & Evaluation for instance.

What developing a new portal? What can I find on it?

Different aid actors have been sharing the Information Management resources they have published online on their own organisation’s website. But a single platform aiming at centralising them in one place to make the life of Information Management practitioners easier did not exist.

CartONG thus hopes that this new portal will help make data management resources from a whole lot of organisations more widely accessible to field practitioners and HQ teams.

The portal is built around a Resource Library which makes accessible a wide range of content: tutorials, toolkits, case studies, lessons learned, benchmarking studies, strategic reports and more - including video content.

Users can also consult blog posts in the dedicated Blog section, as well as learn about upcoming Information Management related training courses, conferences and workshops for aid actors in the Event section.

Get involved!

Aid actors are greatly encouraged to submit their own IM resources for publication on the portal, as well as make suggestions for future blog posts and send all relevant details about their own upcoming IM events.

Users are also invited to sign up to the newsletter of the portal to get all the latest publications freshly and effortlessly delivered to their mail box: https://mailchi.mp/im-portal/1fxh5sfrq3

The development of the IM Resource Portal was funded by AFD (French Development Agency). Click here for more information. It also benefited from the support of the H2H Fund of the H2H Network, which is supported by UK aid from the UK government, and who has (co-)financed a number of resources available on the portal.
