The Building Resilient Communities in Somalia (BRCiS) programme is building capacities of local communities to manage sustainable market based strategies through integrated resilience programming. This has, in some cases, involved construction of key physical infrastructure that can support various livelihood activities for those communities. Through the programme, NRC constructed a livestock market in Guriel town the capital of Galgaduud region. The market is a community initiative prioritized in their community action plans under the second phase of BRCiS. The pastoral community used to sell their animals under Acacia trees with no other basic services available, and when consulted about this support they proposed a livestock market as one of their most important needs.
