COVID-19 Update Situation Report No. 11 As of 05 February 2021

This report is produced by the UN Resident Coordinator Office in Mozambique covering the period from 16 December 2020 – 05 February 2021.

MOZAMBIQUE’S HIGHLIGHTS

• As of 05 February, there were 43,184 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Mozambique and 16,532 active cases;

• According to the Ministry of Health (MISAU) between 25 – 31 January there were:

  • 14,328 active COVID-19 cases

  • 6,236 positive test results (31% positivity test rate)

  • 3,397 recoveries and 62 deaths from COVID-19

• The majority of active cases are located in Maputo City, accounting for 55% of the total number in Mozambique;

• On 13 January, H.E. President Nyusi addressed the nation, announcing a new decree reviewing the measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 under the State of Calamity entering force on 15 January for 21 days: o Closure of bars, barracas, nightclubs, theatres, museums and galleries. o Reduction in the number of people permitted to attend private events, funerals and religious services. o Reduced opening hours for supermarkets and bottle stores, restaurants and other eateries.

• On 04 February, the president addressed the nation again, introducing further measures to combat the spread of COVID19 in Mozambique, entering force on 05 February for 30 days.
In addition to the restrictions above, new restrictions include: o Mandatory curfew in Maputo Metropolitan area and districts of Boane, Marracuene and Matola from 21:00 – 04:00. o Postponement of the resumption of face-to-face classes at all levels of education.
