Handover ceremony for the food aid from China to support the peace process held in Juba

In order to support the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, advance the unification of of army, the Chinese government has successively provided a number of material assistance to South Sudan since last year. On October 26, 2020, the handover ceremony of the second batch of food aid was held in Juba. H.E. Hua Ning, Chinese Ambassador to South Sudan, and Hon. Stephen Par, Minister of Peace Building of South Sudan and Secretary of National Transitional Committee(NTC) attended the ceremony.

Ambassador Hua Ning said that the peace process in South Sudan has entered a new stage, the training and redeployment of unified forces remains an important and urgent task. In the face of COVID-19, the deteriorating economic situation, and the frequent occurrence of natural disasters, relevant parties of South Sudan continued peace talks through dialogue and consultation which brought some positive progress. The Chinese government and people support the peace process from the very beginning, in a hope that South Sudan will restore peace and stability at an early date. China takes the lead in providing material assistance to South Sudan's unified forces building, all assistance promised have been delivered. Ambassador Hua called on all relevant parties of South Sudan to continue to show their political will, unite to overcome difficulties, speed up the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement, and build a unified people's forces to serve the country and all the people. China will continue its support for the peace process, we also encourage the international community to provide concrete assistance to South Sudan.

On behalf of the South Sudanese government and NTC, minister Par thanked the Chinese government and people for their valuable support, emphasizing that China's assistance will give a push to the peace process. The South Sudanese side will ensure the full and effective use of the assistance. He said that South Sudan is facing special difficulties this year, the living conditions of the soldiers in training centers and cantonment sites are very tough. China's food aid will alleviate the urgent need for food shortages of them. Some of the aid is already on the way to cantonment sites and training centers. South Sudan will redeploy the unified forces soon after the completion of training program.
