  • On 3 July, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reports magmatic activity of the Mayon volcano. The volcano continues to emit white steam-laden plumes. The summit has been inflamed and starts to produce ‘faint’ crater glow. Mayon is one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines and now on alert level 2, moderate level of unrest.

  • The local authorities strictly prohibit entry with the 4 km danger zone. The communities are reminded of possibility of sudden explosions, lava collapse, pyroclastic density currents, and ashfall.

  • DG ECHO monitors the situation and coordinates with local authorities and humanitarian partners, with particular attention to the implications of the COVID-19 health protocols being imposed.
