  • Since the last few days, heavy rain has been affecting several States of the country, causing floods, triggering landslides, and leading to casualties and damage.

  • Media report at least 7 fatalities, 3 fatalities occurred in Arunachal Pradesh due to a landslide, 2 deaths and approximately 300,000 affected people in Assam after a flood event, one death and 2 missing in Sikkim following another landslide. Furthermore, heavy rain and flash flood occurred in Meghalaya where one person died, more than 5,000 people have been affected and around 400 houses have been damaged.

  • Local authorities are providing emergency and relief assistance for those affected, in particular, Assam State deployed 80 relief camps and 11 relief distribution centres.

  • For the next 24 hours, heavy rain with thunderstorms and strong winds are forecast across south-west, north-west and north-east States.
