  • Flooding caused by heavy rain in south and central provinces of Iran, lead to fatalities and widespread damage, and continue to cause damage to infrastructure and agriculture sector, worth USD 120 million.

  • According to media, 21 people died and more than 22 others were injured. Fatalities were reported in the provinces of Fars, Hormozgan, Qom, Sistan and Baluchistan, Bushehr, and Khuzestan.

  • Iran is also grappling with the biggest desert locust invasion in the last 50 years. Response teams are fighting the spread in 6 southern provinces where weather conditions are optimal for breeding: Khouzestan, Boushehr, Fars, Hormozgan, South Kerman and Sistan and Balouchestan provinces.

  • If not effectively managed, hatchings are expected to significantly increase in south provinces before the summer.
