COVID-19 threat dominates social media

• Concern about Ebola and security overtaken by fear of COVID-19 outbreak in Butembo region.

• COVID-19 misinformation fuels mistrust towards public MinSante health workers in Beni region, despite overall positive coverage of successful Ebola response.

• MONUSCO remains focal point of negative content.

Key points from Ebola response survey

Butembo area (4-11 March 2020):

• Foreign Ebola health responders mostly enjoy widespread support.

• Substantial concern that local Ebola response teams are inadequately prepared for COVID-19.

• Mistrust towards the Ebola response continues to play a role in keeping some civilians from visiting CTEs.

Beni area (12-18 March 2020):

• Foreign Ebola health responders mostly enjoy widespread support although to a lesser extent than in Butembo.

• Significantly less civilians are vaccinated in Beni than in Butembo, with some stating affordability as a barrier.

• Mistrust towards the Ebola response continues to play a role in keeping some civilians from visiting CTEs.
