With over 200 million people and a dynamic and interconnected economy, Nigeria is in a precarious position as the country implements measures to limit the spread of Covid-19 and to provide adequate health care to those affected. Nowhere is at more risk than the three Northeastern states, where a decade long humanitarian crisis has resulted in over 1.2 million people being displaced from their homes, and where access to even basic health care is extremely limited.

ACTED teams, who are already providing lifesaving assistance in sectors such as food distribution, nutrition, camp management, shelter and information management, are responding to the COVID-19 pandemic across our areas of operation.

Our CCCM teams are leading the way in protecting IDP camps by providing critical training and awareness campaigns, coordinating the service provision of our WASH and health partners, and identifying those residents who are particularly vulnerable to the spread of the disease allowing them to get targeted support.

Operations to provide food and nutrition assistance to over 40,000 people in Monguno, one of the most impacted towns in the Northeast, have been adapted to ensure that the whole population can be served in small groups by dispersing the distribution sites, introducing health screening for people waiting for food and coordinating with local authorities on a large scale public awareness campaign.
