Red Crescent Posts on Alert after Sangan Quake

MASHHAD, 2 January 2020 (IRCS) – Red Crescent’s relief posts in the province of Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan are on alert after an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.8 shook Sangan District, Khaf County, in the northeastern province of Khorasan Razavi.

The earthquake happened at 07:59 local time on Thursday, January 2, at a depth of 8 km and no casualties were reported.

According to the assessment teams, only a few houses made of clay and mud in rural areas were slightly damaged.

Following the quake, Red Crescent dispatched seven assessment and relief teams to the affected region.

After the main quake, 18 aftershocks were registered in Sangan and the central district of Khaf County.

A quake with a magnitude of 4.6 shook Sangan once again at 13:30 local time.

Red Crescent teams are on alert in Khorasan Razavi and South Khorasan provinces.
