Oh God, help me! Help me!"
Please Help the Survivors of the Indonesia Earthquake

"Oh God, help me! Help me!" Yuniwati, a 30-year-old woman, screamed in pain, as she was carried to an ambulance in downtown Padang. She had been pulled out minutes earlier from the rubble of a house, her face covered in bruises and eyes shut.

Mercy-USA for Aid and Development is collecting funds to aid survivors like her. On September 30 and October 1, 2009, two deadly earthquakes struck near the city of Padang on Indonesia's island of Sumatra. The first a 7.6 magnitude earthquake struck at 1:16 p.m. local time on September 30, while the second a magnitude-6.8 quake struck about 24 hours later. These quakes have left at least 715 dead, trapped hundreds more under flattened buildings, and made thousands of persons homeless.

Mercy-USA for Aid and Development's office in Indonesia has sent a Disaster Response Team to the affected region. This team will be providing the survivors with emergency relief supplies like food, water, essential household materials, shelter items, etc.
