This report is produced by DCA Nepal, based on field assessment of affected municipalities, and additional meetings held with humanitarian agencies, local NGOs, and government officials.

Situation Updates

  • On July 21, 2019, a team of humanitarian actors met the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Saptari and discussed about the complexities of data collection of flood affected people in the district. This was a joint coordination meeting with representatives from humanitarian actors and the District Administration Office (DAO). The meeting concluded that the District Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) would not only facilitate in data collection but will also coordinate with the local government in data gathering process for timely response

  • One challenge that actors are facing is the lack of reliable data. Humanitarian actors and the local government could benefit from technical support in data collection to ensure timely response.

  • DCA has started working closely with the Saptakoshi Municipality to collect detailed data of flood affected people and areas.

  • In Saptari, DCA is co-lead of the WASH Cluster in addition to being District Lead Support Agency (DLSA).

  • WASH Cluster Sit Rep, July 21, 2019: in Saptari, as per preliminary survey 2,400 HH are affected and 575 HH are temporarily displaced, local government has decided to focus on WASH and Shelter response. As per the received primary data, total caseload for WASH sector across the affected districts is estimated to be approx. 80,000 families. Due to the flood, around 50,000 tube wells are reported to be contaminated, approximately 25,000 tube wells and 13,000 latrines damaged.

  • Health Emergency Operation Center (HEOC) Sit Rep, July 21, 2019. HEOC in Province 2, stated to have no immediate need of an emergency health camp, with very less probability of an epidemic, and only few diarrheal cases. Public health volunteers and Female community health volunteers have been mobilized to carry out home visits and to conduct awareness programmes regarding health as well as alerts. The health and population ministry has also distributed 1,100 anti-venom to Health Directorate of Province 2. They distributed 100 anti-venom each to the seven districts of Province 2 and 200 antivenom in Siraha District.
