Three children from Dharan Sub-metropolis-15 were diagnosed with dengue, a mosquito-borne disease, in the past week.

The children are undergoing treatment at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS). Dr Arun Kumar Singh of the BPKIHS said that the children who showed symptoms of fever, stomach ache and nausea were confirmed to be suffering from dengue.

The sub-metropolis office has started a drive to destroy mosquito larvae and spray medicines in the affected areas with the technical assistance of the BPKIHS from Wednesday.

According to Ram Babu Yadav, chief at the Health Section of the sub-metropolis, medicines have been sprayed at Everest Line, Pathibhara Line, Pindeshwor Chok, Puspalan Marga, Devkota Chok, Budhasubba Chok, Sadan Marga, Dhurbajyotipath Chok, Chemjong Path among other areas of Dharan-15 to control mosquitoes.

Dengue is an infectious disease contracted from mosquitoes belonging to the Aedes Aegypti genus. Doctors said that its symptoms range from mild fever to incapacitating high fever, severe headache, pain in muscles and joints, and rashes on the skin.

Officials said that they have also been conducting awareness campaigns in various wards of the sub-metropolis.

“We have requested the local residents of Dharan to adopt utmost caution to stay safe from dengue-causing mosquitoes,” said Yadav.
