Qatar Charity (QC) has recently distributed food and shelter aid to 30,000 displaced people in the governorates of Sana'a, Hajja, Saada and Socotra.

The aid comes with the generous support from the people in Qatar, in response to calls by UN organizations to address food insecurity in Yemen.

The distribution of the aid was carried out in cooperation with the National Authority for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Response.

This aid came as part of the continuous efforts exerted by Qatar Charity’s Yemen office to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people due to the ongoing conflict in their country.

Qatar Charity distributed 6,250 food baskets, which included eight main food items, as well as it delivered 1250 shelter items, including mattresses, blankets, bed sheets and pillows, benefiting 55,000 displaced people affected by the current bitter situation of Yemen.

The displaced Yemenis are suffering from the harsh living conditions due to the displacement, which brought more difficulties to the Yemeni vulnerable than those they experienced before the conflict erupted in their country.

The delegate of the National Authority for the Management and Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Response expressed the pleasure over the distribution of the food and shelter aid.

He also said, "Thank you very much for this great gift, as you always distribute high-quality aid. These food baskets and shelter assistance that you distributed are wonderful.”

He appealed to the people in Qatar to support the Yemeni people. “We ask the people in Qatar and officials at Qatar Charity to pay more attention to the Yemeni people and stand by them in their difficult time. They will never forget those who extend a helping hand to them in their plight,” the delegate added.

Qatar Charity’s office coordinates all its activities with the United Nations agencies working in Yemen, implementing various joint projects in the country.

During the past period, Qatar Charity’s office delivered food assistance to 26,000 displaced persons in Sana'a. It also distributed the benefits of the sponsorship to 10,000 orphans for the year 2017, while it is working on the distribution of these benefits to 13,000 sponsored ones for the year 2018, Thus, the total beneficiaries of the sponsorship and food baskets will increase to 125,000 persons.

Last year, the United Nations warned that nearly half of Yemen’s population could be soon on the risk of starvation. It has already noted that 20 million Yemenis suffer from food insecurity or lack of food.

Qatar Charity’s office in Yemen has recently been selected as a member of the Advisory Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR)’s shelter cluster.
