On 22 April 2019, the Colombia National Disaster Risk Management Unit (UNGRD), reported heavy rain and landslides over the weekend in Barbacoas Municipality, Nariño Department, affecting 49 homes. Barbacoas is under a state of emergency due to an overflow of the Telembi river, which affected the towns of Magüí Payán and Roberto Payán. In Rosas Municipality, Cauca Department, landslides affected several families, 5 persons were reported injured, and there were 17 deaths. In addition, media reported, Valle del Cauca Department is under a yellow alert due to a potential overflow of the following nine rivers: Lili, Meléndez, Cañaveralejo, Jamundí, Pance, Guadalajara, Dagua, Claro, and Anchicayá. On 18 April 2019, the Colombia Geological Service reported that the Nevado del Ruiz volcano, located about 80 miles west of Bogotá, generated ash columns between 230 and 1,300 meters above the top part of the volcano, which dispersed to the northwest and southeast.
