Natural disaster Assessment and Response Update:

Helmand: (Update of the flood Incident on 10 March)

Total number of families verified: 2,475

Herat:

Total number of families verified: 1,425

Reportedly over 1,000 families were affected by flood in Injil, Guzarah, Ghoryan and Herat city on 28-29 March. Joint assessment teams composed of IOM, DRC, IRC, WFP, OXFAM, ANDMA, DoRR, CoAR, WV and ARCS identified 1,032 families eligible for humanitarian assistance. IOM distributed emergency shelter kits, household items, blankets to 279 families, OXFAM distributed multi-purpose cash to 64 families, UNICEF distributed NFIs to 377 families and IRC initiated distribution of cash for NFIs to 250 families on 04 April. The remaining families committed to be covered by UNICEF, WFP. ARCS will cover food needs of 377 families in Ghoryan, WFP will cover food needs of 655 families. In addition related to this incident; an inter-agency assessment team is formed to assess the remaining affected areas.

In a separate flood incident on 18 March, per initial report from ANDMA; 270 families were affected due to flood in Zendajan, Ghoryan, Zawol and Shindand districts. Needs assessment team was organized by ARCS that identified 393 families in need of humanitarian assistance in these districts. UNICEF distributed NFI and ARCS committed to distribute food items.

Badghis:

Total number of families verified: 1,425

Total number of families assisted: 1,363

As per information received from ANDMA; over 500 families are affected by flood in Qala Naw, Qadis, Jawand, Bala Murghan and Muqur districts. Joint assessment teams composed of IRC, WV, WFP, UNCEF, ARCS and government line departments initiated assessments that has so far identified 2,833 families in mentioned districts eligible for humanitarian assistance. ANDMA and UNICEF committed to distribution food items and NFIs to 230 families of Qalae Naw however assessment in the districts are on-going that will follow coordination of response to identified families.

Farah:

Total number of families verified: 7,833

Total number of families assisted: 2,570

Ongoing and Planned distribution: 2,038

A joint assessment team consisting of government line department, IOM, UNICEF, WFP, ARCS, DACAAR, DRC initiated assessment of flood affected families in Farah city on 03 March however the assessment was later paused by governor who has then established 80 team of government staff who are conducting the assessments. The humanitarian agencies team identified 702 families that was later paused by governor. A separate meeting organized by OCHA represented by humanitarian agencies convinced the governor for resuming the assessment by humanitarian partners. 7,833 families were identified eligible for humanitarians assistance in 23 villages of Farah city. IOM and UNICEF distributed NFIs, Blankets, emergency shelter to 2,570 families while WFP committed to cover food needs. The distribution of NFIs for 323 families is on-going while the need for NFIs for 5,083 families is gap so far that is being coordinated among humanitarian agencies with government already initiated cash distributed to the remaining families.

Balkh:

Ongoing and Planned distribution: 297

Heavy rainfall caused massive flooding on 28 and 29 March that resulted in damages and causalities in Sholgara, Dehdadi, Chemtal and Mazar city. Six Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, WFP, DACCAR, SCI, ACTED, CARE, DoRR, DRRD, ANDMA and ARCS conducted assessment that identified 187 families ( 49 houses completely destroyed & 138 severely damaged) in Mazar Sharif. IOM distributed emergency shelter kits, family tents, household items, blankets and solar lanterns while on 31 March and 1st April 2019 while WFP, ANDMA and UNICEF and SCI distributed food items, hygiene kits and children clothing.

ARCS conducted assessment in Sholgara and Chemtal districts that are inaccessible for other humanitarian partners, 458 families (82 houses completely destroyed and 376 severely damaged) were identified. In addition; four persons were killed and two sustained injuries in Chemtal district.

ARCS distributed NFIs and WFP and ANDMA distributed food items to 161 affected families in Sholgara on 1st April. ARCS. UNICEF, WFP and ANDMA initiated distribution NFIs food items to remaining 197 families of Chemtal on 3rd April.

Faryab:

Total number of families verified: 519

Total number of families assisted: 270

Ongoing and Planned distribution: 249

Joint assessment teams consisting of IOM, SCI, WFP/PAT,DACCAR,ACTED ANDMA, DoRR and ARCS assessed Khwaja Sabz Posh and Maimana districts. The teams have so far identified 519 families (259 houses completely destroyed and 260 severely damaged). In addition; four persons were killed one sustained injuries in Khawaja Sabzposh. IOM distributed household items, blankets, clothing module, emergency shelter kits and family tents to 270 families in Maimana and Khwaja Sabzposh districts while ANDMA and SCI distributed food items and emergency shelter repair kits The distribution to remaining 249 families is being coordinated following the PDMC meeting on 04 April. The assessment in Maimana and Khoja Sabzposh concluded. Based on initial reports from locals in inaccessible districts of Dawlatabad and Kohistanat; around 1,150 families have reportedly affected by flood. In addition; six persons killed in Almar and Sherintagab districts. ARCS committed to mobilize assessment teams in these districts and provided relief assistance to those verified in need. Updates on progress of the assessment will follow after PDMC meeting on 04 April. Reported 1,200 livestock killed and 200 jeribs of agricultural land affected by flood in Qaysar district.
