The government has paid off outstanding loans leased in the aftermath of the 2004 Asian Tsunami

After reviewing the various challenges faced by individuals who have outstanding loans they took out from the government of Maldives and Bank of Maldives in the aftermath of the 2004 Asian Tsunami for infrastructural repair purposes, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has taken executive action to reduce their financial burden.

Under the terms of this Executive Actions, the government has paid 50% of the outstanding debt owed by anyone with regard to the aforementioned loans. Thus, of the total 30.4 million owed by individuals, the government had already paid 15.2 million.

Following this Executive Action, there is currently no one that has any outstanding debt they need to pay off in regards to loans taken out in the aftermath of the 2004 Asian Tsunami.
