Turkish Red Crescent Response to Cyclone IDAI: Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe Update No: 2, 30.03.2019

In response to the devastating floods following tropical Cyclone IDAI, the Turkish Red Crescent (TRC) initiates three simultaneous emergency relief operations to support to Mozambique Red Cross, Malawi Red Cross and the Zimbabwe Red Cross National Societies.
As a response to the destructive disaster affected heavily the region; a team of 4 (four) Relief Delegate and 2 (two) Shelter Delegate are carrying out humanitarian aid activity in Mozambique. Activities have been mainly concentrated on relief and hygiene kit distributions.
Our team has distributed so far 600 locally procured hygiene and food parcels and 175 hygiene parcels send with the first air consignment from Turkey in the disaster affected aeras. In 29th of March the second air consignment has arrived in Beira from Turkey consisting 200 food parcels, 400 hygiene parcels and 50 tents.
Besides, a team of 2 (two) Relief Delegate are carrying out humanitarian aid activity in Malawi. And have distributed 600 food parcels in Zomba district.
Also, the team of 2 (two) Relief Delegate are carrying out humanitarian aid activity in Zimbabwe, 10.000 USD in cash were donated to Zimbabwe Red Cross Society. In addition to cash donation, 1.150 Food parcels has been distributed in Masvingo district.
In addition to these activities in the field, in HQ level TRC has launched a public appeal for Cyclone IDAI and welcomes donations for humanitarian aid to the disaster response activities as well as for longer-term recovery and resilience programs.
Turkish Red Crescent is willing to assist the host National Societies and the Movement partners involved in the response efforts to alleviate human suffering in spirit of mutual assistance and solidarity.
