Highlights of Issues and Achievements

Below is the key development of the situation during the reporting period.

  • On 4 February, the Provincial Disaster Manaement Authority of Government of Balochistan (PDMA) has declared ‘’drought emergency’’.

  • According to PDMA latest report 18 districts out of 32 has been declared drought affected districts in Balochistan where 1.4 million people affected by the drought including 37% pregnant women are malnourished.

  • PDMA has distributed food packs in 22,000 families out of 279,000. A huge gap exists in Balochistan in terms of relief response.

  • On 6 February, PDMA Balochistan has issued a NOC to Muslim Aid. The organization is hereby provisionally allowed to conduct drought assessment and food distribution among 1000 families in the priority districts of Washuk, Chagai, Nushki and Kharan. In the second phase, Muslim Aid will work on further priority areas as per the recommendations of PDMA.

  • MA has conducted an initial rapid need assessment in three districts of Balochistan including Chaghi, Noshki and Washuk . The report has been shared with multiple donor organizations.

  • MA emergency response team has conducted meetings with Head of World Food Programme Balochistan, Head of World Health Organization Balochistan and Health Department of Balochistan.

  • MA team has also conducted meetings with multiple NGOs/INGOs including Islamic Relief,
    HANDs, WaterAid, PPAF, Balochistan Rural Support Programme and Chagai Aman Saqafat (local NGO).

  • MA has conducted a meeting with Additional Divisional Commissioner of District Chagai to assess the damages.

  • MA started has planned a response to support 1000 families in District Chagai through the provision of dry-food distribution.
