TROPICAL DISTURBANCE NUMBER ONE ISSUED BY THE SOLOMON ISLANDS METEOROLOGICAL SERVICE AT 12:30PM THIS AFTERNOON ON THE 12th FEBRUARY, 2019..

THE SPECIAL WEATHER BULLETIN IS NOW UPGRADED TO TROPICAL DISTURBANCE

A TROPICAL DISTURBANCE IS CURRENT FOR ALL PROVINCES.

AT 11:00AM THIS MORNING, A TROPICAL DEPRESSION WITH A CENTRAL PRESSURE OF 996 HECTOPASCALS WAS LOCATED NEAR 14.0 DEGREES LATITUDE SOUTH AND 164.1 DEGREES LONGITUDE EAST. THIS IS LOCATED APPROXIMATELY 212 NAUTICAL MILES (390KM) SOUTH-SOUTHEAST OF MAKIRA ISLAND. THE DEPRESSION IS MOVING EAST-NORTHEAST AT 13 KNOTS AND IS INTENSIFYING.

EXPECT GALE FORCE WINDS 34 TO 47 KNOTS (63-87KM/HOUR) TO DEVELOP OVER PARTS OF RENNELL & BELLONA, MAKIRA AND TEMOTU WITH VERY ROUGH SEAS AND HEAVY SWELLS( 3.5M- 5.0M)

EXPECT WINDS OF 20 TO 30 KNOTS (37-56KM/HOUR) INCREASING TO 35 KNOTS (65KM/HOUR) AT TIMES OVER THE REMAINING PROVINCES WITH MODERATE TO ROUGH SEAS AND MODERATE SWELLS (2.5M-3.5M).

RAIN WILL BE HEAVY WITH SQUALLY THUNDERSTORMS.

PEOPLE SHOULD TAKE PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES AS BAD WEATHER ASSOCIATED WITH THE TROPICAL DEPRESSION POSES THREAT TO LIVES AND PROPERTIES.
