SITUATION ANALYSIS

• 14.6 million people in 2018 were in need of access to safe water, partly due to heavy infrastructure damage. Despite investments in water treatment systems and provision of water disinfectants, the main challenge countrywide remained on the water quality side, particularly at point of use. This resulted from deteriorating secondary infrastructures such as water networks and sewage systems, as well as limitations in regular operational and maintenance of water treatment stations.

• WASH situation in IDP camps also continued to be critical, requiring the provision of full WASH service packages while promoting the transition towards more sustainable solutions.
