Voda Donbasa (VD) informed the WASH Cluster, that on 8 th February 2019 (at 16.00 Kiev time), a shell (suspected to be a grenade) landed near a transport vehicle, which carrying day shift workers home from the 1 st Lift Pumping Station the South Donbas Water Way (PS of SDWW). Luckily the shell did not hit the vehicle and shrapnel also missed, during the explosion. 14 staff of the Pumping Station, as well as the driver, were in the vehicle (15 people in total).

This is now the 6 th time in 2019, that staff of the 1 st Lift Pumping Station (located near Yasynuvata) have been affected by a violent incident. The Pumping Station and its staff are currently facing huge risks. There is a real risk, now, that staff will refuse to operate the Pumping Station, due to recent attacks.

The 1st LPS supplies water to five filter stations, between them providing clean water to more than 1,1 million people, significantly in Government Controlled Areas (GCA): Krasnoarmiiska Filter Station (267,403 people); Velykoanadolska Filter Station (89,241 people); and Starokrymska Filter Stations №1 and №2 (470,436 people). The PS also serves Non-Government Controlled Areas (NGCA): Donetsk city, Yasynuvata, Dokuchaievsk, Yasne and Olenivka in NGCA: Donetska Filter Sstation (378, 983 people).
