Continued dryness in southern Africa, while drought develops in Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya

  1. Poor rainfall during the Short-Rains season has caused moisture deficits in Somalia, Ethiopia, and Kenya.

  2. Poorly-distributed rainfall and high daytime temperatures have resulted in early-season drought across southern South Africa and Lesotho.

  3. Several weeks of poor rainfall has caused dryness in central and western Madagascar.

  4. Poor rainfall at the start of monsoon season in Angola, Namibia’s Caprivi Strip, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, and South Africa has strengthened dry conditions.

  5. Heavy rainfall caused significant flooding in western Kenya last week. Heavy rainfall forecast next week could worsen ground conditions.
