Tropical cyclone PHETHAI made landfall close to Katrenikona town (coastal north-east Andhra Pradesh) on 17 December in the morning (UTC) as a tropical storm, but is forecast to dissipate over the next 24 hours. One person was reportedly killed in the East Godavari District (coastal northeastern Andhra Pradesh).
