Delivering Aid and Support for Families on the Brink of Famine

November 13, 2018 (SEATTLE) – Prolonged civil war in Yemen has led to a severe food shortage and loss of income for families, bringing the Middle Eastern nation to the brink of famine. According to the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), 130 Yemeni children under the age of five die each day as the result of extreme hunger and disease. “The situation in Yemen is the worst I’ve seen in my lifetime. The risk of famine is so high right now. We have been delivering food, water and medical supplies for more than a year with our partners, but the current scale of food shortages and blockades have put another million children at risk. Now, more than 5.2 million children are at risk of starvation. That rate will skyrocket without more support right now,” said Chris Sheach,
Director of Disaster Response for World Concern.

World Concern is working directly through partners on the ground in Yemen:

• Distributing emergency rations of food to families
• Providing safe drinking water with rainwater tank installation
• Providing hygiene training and distributing materials
• Offering education for adults and children
• Offering livelihoods loans to men and women to earn income
• Implementing mental health support for families to cope with the trauma of war
