Afghanistan

Ghazni’s Malistan and Jaghori districts home to mainly Hazaras, an ethnic Shi’ite minority, are under siege. Over 5,600 people have left the area since fighting escalated on 7 November. There are grave protection concerns for the remaining population.

Access to the highly contested province is constrained, hampering humanitarian assistance and movement of people trying to flee violence.

Criticism of the government’s response sparked protests in Kabul; a nearby suicide bomb killed at least 6 people.

Bangladesh

On 30 October Bangladesh and Myanmar agreed to start returning 2,260 Rohingya refugees from 15 November, at a rate of 150 per day. This is despite claims from UNHCR that conditions in Rakhine state are unsafe for return.

Names of families for repatriation have been placed on a list. The selection process for this remains unclear. The fear of repatriation has led an unknown amount of families to leave their camps and go into hiding.

On 8 November over 30 refugees attempted to flee Bangladesh via sea to Malaysia, raising fears of a potential increase in dangerous voyages. Protection concerns, in particular, are high.

Yemen

Conflict between government forces and Houthi fighters escalated in Al Hudaydah on 3 November.

Access is limited, and residents are trapped inside their homes by ongoing fighting. Between 3-9 November at least 18 civilians were killed and 17 others were injured.

Heavy shelling near Al Thawra Hospital is placing patients and medical staff at risk, while the 22 May Hospital and a pharmacy in the city have been damaged by airstrikes.
