“Regional Level Desk and Field Exercise” was held on the occasion of anniversary of earthquake that took place in Van on October, 2011.

According to the scenario of the exercise held on the occasion of anniversary of earthquake, an injured citizen and another person who were trapped under the debris of a collapsed building were rescued and measures were taken against gas leakage.

The ceremony organized at the Provincial Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) Directorate began with a one-minute silence in memory of the deceased and the recital of national anthem.

Addressing the commemoration ceremony, Regional AFAD Director Osman Uçar said, “May Allah bless the souls of 644 people who died in the earthquake”.

Noting that the Turkey Disaster Intervention Plan includes effective interventions against all kinds of disasters and emergencies that may occur in the country, Uçar said, “Today, we are going to stage this exercise in cooperation and coordination of all related offices and agencies. This exercise will give us the opportunity to transfer our experience concerning quicker and more effective response to all kinds of disasters and emergencies that may occur in our province and region.”

Later, the “Regional 2018 Desk and Field Exercise” was staged with the participation of AFAD teams coming from Van, Muş, Bitlis, Ağrı, Hakkari and Siirt under the coordination of the Van Governor’s Office.

An injured citizen and another person who were trapped under the debris of a collapsed building were rescued and measures were taken to prevent gas leakage during the exercise participated by police, gendarme and 26 related offices and agencies.
