Statement by Ali Al-Za’tari, the Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in the Syrian Arab Republic on Rukban Aid, 17 October 2018 [EN/AR]

The United Nations in Damascus confirms “preparations are actively ongoing for a joint UN/ Syrian Red Arab Crescent (SARC) convoy next week to provide humanitarian assistance to an estimated 50,000 women, children and men who are stranded at the Rukban camp in southeast Syria near the Iraqi and Jordanian border.”

The Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Syria, Mr. Ali Al-Za’tari said: “The overall humanitarian situation inside the Rukban camp is at a critical stage. The UN in Syria together with SARC, will reach the camp to provide life-saving humanitarian assistance in the coming few days.” The UN is in close coordination with all parties concerned to ensure a safe and quick delivery of aid.

The last delivery of UN aid to Rukban took place in January 2018 through Jordan.
