KABUL, Afghanistan - The Zabul provincial governor ended months of waiting when his government obtained two armoured sport utility vehicles, 3 August

ISAF's Zabul Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT) delivered the new vehicles to Governor Delbar Jan Arman and the Zabul Provincial Development Committee. The vehicles reduce the government's reliance on military forces to transport provincial officials to different locations within the province.

'These vehicles will help to ensure your security so you can go out and see the people more frequently,' said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Bryce Brakman, Zabul PRT commander, during a meeting with the committee. 'I hope you enjoy them; I hope you use them often. Get out and see as much as you can throughout the province, and we will always support you.'

'Thank you for the hard work you put into getting these vehicles for us,' Arman said. 'This is a result of your hard work. These vehicles are not for the governor; they are for all of Zabul, for everybody.'

The team used $250,000 from the Commander's Emergency Response Program to purchase the vehicles and transport them to Qalat, the capital of Zabul.

'The governor really needed these vehicles to get out and see the people,' Brakman said. 'The government is centred in a dangerous region, and these officials need a safe way to visit their districts and villages without putting themselves at risk.'

'This will allow the Zabul provincial officials the opportunity to meet with their constituents,' said U.S. Army Maj. Trever Nehls, Zabul PRT civil affairs lead. 'The line directors here need a way to visit their staff members in each district. These vehicles provide them a safe way to do that.'
