Colombia
Since 18 August, Ecuadorian authorities are demanding that all Venezuelans hold a valid passport in order to enter the country. The same measure will be implemented from 25 August in Peru. Up to half of Venezuelan migrants do not own a passport, therefore it is likely that a growing number of people will be stranded in Colombia. There are concerns that this may lead to increased tensions with host communities as resources become stretched. There is also a risk that these new policies will lead to an increase in human trafficking as people continue to try to cross the borders.
Ethiopia
Intercommunal conflict has displaced over 141,000 people in Somali region since 4 August. The conflict started in Jigjiga city (Somali region) and spread to Degahbur, Warder, Kabridahar, Gode and Babile areas. Oromia and Tigray regions have also reported an influx of new IDPs following the conflict. Urgent humanitarian needs include food, WASH, Health and NFIs.
Nigeria
Boko Haram (BH) fighters attacked Malari village, Borno state on 19 August. Different sources report that between 19 and 63 people have been killed. Hundreds of people from surrounding villages have fled to Monguno, Borno state, where there are urgent food, shelter and NFI needs. This development marks a deterioration in the overall security situation in Borno state compared to recent weeks where there have been few reported security incidents.
