Romania: Government meeting - Approval of some emergency funds to aid the population and reconstruct the infrastructure in the flooded areas

On today's meeting, the Government has decided to earmark funds to reconstruct the infrastructure and aid the persons from the northern flood- hit counties, the Minister of Interior and Administrative Reform, Mr. Cristian David has stated in a press briefing, at the end of the extraordinary Cabinet meeting

Following the information provided by authorities, the Government has decided today to earmark some emergency aid to the flood- hit population from Iasi, Suceava, Botosani, Maramures, Neamt and Bacau counties. Therefore, each person of the affected families shall benefit of aid amounting to 300 RON. The families with casualties because of flooding shall receive an aid of 5.000 RON.

The Romanian Government will extend 800 lei in aid to each family or single person whose house was completely destroyed by floods. The families whose house had been 50 percent destroyed would get 500 lei, while those who had their house less than half damaged would get 300 lei.

The Government also decided to earmark a total 4.8 million lei from the State Reserve, for free, to the population of Botosani, Iasi, Neamt, Suceava, Maramures and Bacau, this money is destined for the purchase of food for the flood affected people: tins, bread, mineral water, rice, pastes, maize, as well as mattresses, blankets, sleeping bags, mattresses, rubber boots and clothes.

Furthermore, 50 million lei will be assigned to the repair of the infrastructure in the disaster-hit areas, with the money to come from the Intervention Fund made available to the Government
