Operational Updates

11-13 June: WFP, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, organized a consultation workshop on school meal programme with various participants from different ministries, development partners, experts and sub-national authorities. The workshop explored global, regional, and local lessons learned on the implementation of school meals and homegrown school meals programmes. The workshop provided important information and recommendations to support the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to prepare an action plan, including the review of key strategic direction and institutional mechanisms to realize an effective transition from WFP management to a sustainable national school meal programme.
According to the signed Road Map between WFP and the Government, the Royal Government of Cambodia aims to lead the full implementation and coordination of the school meal programme by 2021.

March–June: WFP arranged community school nutrition day in 585 schools in three provinces to raise nutrition awareness and dietary diversity among schoolchildren, communities, local authorities and schools. Relevant reading materials such as flyers, posters, and brochures were distributed and discussed among participants including parents, teachers, cooks, caretakers, school children and local authorities to improve their knowledge and practice on nutrition, water, sanitation and hygiene, vegetable gardening and fortified foods. School nutrition day also aims to encourage participation of communities to support school activities, particularly the school meals programme.
