A 6.2 magnitude earthquake (aftershock) hit the Indonesian island of Lombok on August 9th 2018. This follows prior earthquakes of 7.0 M on August 5th 2018, and a 6.4 M quake on Sunday 29th July 2018.
As of 10 August 2018, National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) has verified overall fatalities as 321 people, 1,033 people injured, and 270,168 people displaced. In addition, a total of 67,875 houses damaged, along with 6 bridges, 458 schools, 3 hospitals, and 20 office buildings. Altogether the initial economic damage and loss figure is around IDR 2.3 billion (+ USD 138 million). These figures are expected to rise over the coming days as search and rescue continues and access to remote areas open up.
