Malaysia contributes USD 100,000 to Lao PDR for relief effort of flood disaster caused by collapsed dam in Attapeu Province

The massive flash floods caused by the collapse of the saddle dam of the Xe-Pien-Xe Namnoy in Attapeu Province has caused vast destruction on properties and livelihood of the people in the vicinity. More than 1400 people were made homeless and more than 100 people missing.

To help out in the relief efforts and more importantly to provide the immediate basic needs for the people affected by the disaster, the Government of Malaysia will make a contribution of USD100,000 to the Government of the Lao People's Democratic Republic. YB Foreign Minister, Dato’ Saifuddin Abdullah conveyed this matter to H.E. Saleumxay Kommasith, Foreign Minister of Lao PDR during a bilateral meeting at the sidelines of the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting held in Singapore on 3 August 2018.

In the spirit of ASEAN solidarity, Malaysia hopes that the contribution will assist Lao PDR facilitate its relief efforts. It is of utmost importance for Malaysia to offer assistance within its means and capabilities to neighbouring countries affected by natural calamities.
