RIYADH, April 08 (CIC) – United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), and 30 countries around the world are to receive 7000 tonnes of dates this year donated by Saudi Arabia, King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarians Aid (KSRelief) announced on Sunday.

Advisor to the Royal Court and the Supervisor General of KSRelief Centre, Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah, said that the donation is part of the government aid programme to distribute dates in 2018.

The aid includes 4,000 tonnes of dates donated to the WFP and another 3,000 tonnes will be sent to more than 30 countries around the world, according to Al Rabeeah.

He said, ‘’Saudi Arabia is well known for the aid programmes it provides. Over the past two decades, it has reached a total of USD $65.9 billion, covering more than 80 countries around the world.”

Saudi Arabia has the highest number of date palm trees in the world, roughly accounting for 25 percent of the world’s date production.

In line with its humanitarian spirit and as a means of effectively distributing aid, Saudi Arabia has long been a regional leader in humanitarian affairs and has demonstrated a profound commitment to supporting those most in need around the world. The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Centre (KSRelief) was founded in 2015.
