OROMIA REGION - KEY FINDINGS

LOCATION AND CAUSE OF DISPLACEMENT: 772,242 displaced individuals comprising 124,982 households in 369 displacement sites were identified in Oromia region*.
These figures represent an increase of 242,532 in the total individuals (46%), an increase of 53% in households and 77% in sites since round 7 (August/September 2017). 79% sites opened in 2017. Conflict was the primary cause of displacement for an estimated 73% of the displaced population.
DEMOGRAPHICS: 50% of displaced individuals were female and 50% were male. 61% were younger than 18 years old. 6% were over 60 years old.
SHELTER: 70 (18%) sites reported that over 50% of households were living in shelters that were below standard.
WASH: Only 28 sites meet SPHERE standards of access to over 15 liters of water per person per day. 219 (59%) displacement sites reported having no toilets.
FOOD, NUTRITION AND LIVELIHOODS: 101 (27%) sites, representing 405,414 individuals, reported no access to food. 65% of sites reported that IDPs did not have access to income generating activities
HEALTH: Pneumonia was the primary health concern in this round of data collection with 116 sites reporting this.
EDUCATION: In 52% of sites (194) less than 50% of children are attending school. Formal primary school education is available at 52% (300) of sites.
Alternative basic education (ABE) is available at 8% (31) sites.
PROTECTION: Harmful traditional practices were reported across some sites. These practices included: female genital mutilation and child marriage.
COMMUNICATION: 44% of sites reported that local leaders were IDPs primary source of information followed by site managers 31%.
