BUCHAREST, Sept 11, 2007 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Romania's Environment Ministry extended on Tuesday the Yellow Code warning for floods to 28 of the 41 counties of the Carpathian country.

The ministry issued on Monday a Yellow Code in 19 counties.

Flood may hit these counties following the heavy rainfalls forecast for the interval Sept. 11 - 14, according to the Operative Center for Emergencies of the Environment Ministry of the Environment and Sustainable Development.

The hydrological alert targets 28 counties in western, central, southern and eastern Romania, most of them in or around the Carpathian areas.

The weather authorities warned the local governments against the risk of major flash flooding, torrents and streams flowing on slopes, water flow increases along small rivers with alert levels being possibly exceeded.
