Today marks 1 000 days since the intensification of the conflict in Yemen and the launch of the Saudi-led coalition bombing campaign on 26 March 2015.

The UN Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) in Yemen reports that 136 civilians and non-combatants were killed and 87 injured as a result of airstrikes in Sana’a, Sa’ada, Al Hudaydah and Taizz governorates in the period from 6 to 16 December. At least seven civilians were killed when airstrikes struck a hospital in Al Hudaydah on 10 December. The OHCHR also expressed concerns over recent violations by Houthis against members of former President Saleh's political party, including attacks and arbitrary detentions, as well as unconfirmed reports of summary executions.

The Yemen Data Project released a report on air raids: during the first half of December 2017, 270 air raids were recorded, of which 46 air raids targeted military sites and 98 targeted non-military sites (including 33 air raids on residential areas and 4 on educational facilities). Since March 2015, 15 589 air raids were recorded, of which nearly one third (31%) targeted non-military sites.

On 19 December, a Houthi ballistic missile targeting the Saudi Arabia capital Riyadh was reportedly intercepted. No injuries or damages were reported. It is the third missile launched from Yemen towards Saudi Arabia since November.

994 865 suspected cholera cases and 2 226 associated deaths have been reported across the country between 27 April and 18 December 2017 (WHO).
