The Second Meeting of the Steering Committee for the EC funded rehabilitation program in the Georgian- Abkhaz conflict zone was held on 4 July 2007 in Zugdidi UNOMIG Sector HQ, chaired by the Head of the Delegation of the European Commission (EC), Ambassador Per Eklund, in the presence of Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Mr. Ivo Petrov and the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Mr. Peter van Ruysseveldt. The Georgian side was represented by Mr. Ruslan Abashidze and the Abkhaz side- by Mr. Daur Kove.

The participants of the Second Meeting considered reports on the implementation of the EC funded economic rehabilitation projects for the Georgian-Abkhaz conflict zone under Phase I of the program.

They made their respective remarks on the implementation process and presented their views on how better coordinate efforts in the implementation of the ongoing and future projects. In this regard, the participants took note of the reports on the planned Phase II of the EC funded rehabilitation program.

The side's representatives highly assessed the EC, UNOMIG, UNDP and other international organizations rehabilitation efforts and agreed continuing to closely cooperate.

The participants further exchanged views on the EC assistance under the European Neighborhood Policy (ENP) Action Plan. They agreed to mainly focus on confidence-building-measures while preparing their project proposals.

Participants agreed to hold the Third Meeting of the Steering Committee in Gali, in early autumn 2007.
