Addis Ababa December 06/2017 National Disaster Risk Management Commission (NDRMC) said over 17,000 metric tons of food was distributed for people displaced from Oromia and Somali regional states.

This was revealed today at the first quarter performance of this Ethiopian budget year to Natural Resources Standing Committee of the House of People's Representatives.

NDRMC Commissioner Mitiku Kassa said the provisions were made by the government, non-governmental organizations and the public.

The Commission was able to respond within 48 hours after the conflict to support the displaced, he added.

Besides, preparations are underway to fully rehabilitate the displaced in both regions, according to Mitiku.

The Natural Resources Standing Committee called on the commission to strengthen its collaboration with the regional states as they have crucial role to play in rehabilitating the displaced and maintaining peace.

The committee appreciated the commission for providing assistance to the displaced.
