Mexican Red Cross delivers humanitarian actions in cities affected by the earthquakes

Mexican Red Cross has intensified their response mechanisms to support regions affected by the earthquake that shook Mexico last Thursday, September 8th. It registered at 8.1 degrees on the Richter scale. Red Cross’ auxiliary role allowed to set up collection centres and to coordinate restoring family links nationally.

On September 9th, Mexican Red Cross President, Fernando Suinaga Cárdenas, announced that collection centres were open and operational. From that day, Mexican Red Cross has received 236,740 tons in humanitarian aid in its collection centres located in 16 states of the country. From this, 130,560 tons have been sent to the state of Oaxaca, where they have been distributed to 16 communities of the Isthmus. This aid has benefited 24 thousand people.

Over 260 Red Cross volunteers and supporters are working to classify, package and distribute humanitarian aid.

In addition, the Mexican Red Cross has delivered more than 600 tent houses, to provide shelter to many people who have lost their homes and sleep in the open.

In the state of Chiapas, the Red Cross delivered more than 4 tons of humanitarian aid to be distribute in the coastal area, where more damage is reported, and volunteers specialized in relief were mobilized to assist the residents with a mobile clinic.
