Hurricane Irma, a category 5 hurricane with maximum sustained winds of nearly 295 km/h and higher gusts hit Antigua and Barbuda on 6 September 2017.

The islands of Antigua and Barbuda,St. Barthélemy, St Martin/Sint Maarten and the British Virgin Islands remain the most affected.

Barbuda sustained extensive damage and the population has been evacuated to Antigua.
