Highlights

Airbridge Djibouti – Sana’a for the cholera response

  • To face the increased cargo transport needs for the humanitarian response to the Cholera outbreak in Yemen, WFP, as the lead agency of the Logistics Cluster, chartered a dedicated Antonov-12 aircraft to be based in Djibouti to carry out a maximum of four rotations a week with Sana’a. The aircraft arrived in Djibouti on 5 August, and the first airlift was completed the following day. In August, 139 mt were delivered to Sana’a on behalf of nine organisations through 12 rotations.

  • The contract of the Antonov-12 expires on 4 September and is not being extended as currently the visibility on the transport needs via air from Djibouti to Sana’a is unclear. To respond to the future organisation’s demands of air deliveries, airlifts will be scheduled every two weeks from Djibouti to Sana’a following the standard practice for airlifts already in place prior to the airbridge. The first airlift is scheduled for 18 September.

  • Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on how to access this service are available at the dedicated page on the Logistics Cluster website, as well as a recap snapshot
