On Wednesday, 16th August, 2017, the Ministry of Disaster Management and refugees handed 8 houses to 8 families residing in Cyanzarwe Sector, Rubavu District whose houses were destroyed by heavy rains and wind in 2010.

The houses were given to these families as a response to disasters that deeply affected the population. Further, to lift them from extreme poverty they were enforced to be in after the destruction of their houses.

After the reception of a new house, Nyirabangoga Olive, one of the beneficiaries who got a house, expressed her gratitude by recalling how the heavy rains destroyed her former house.

“When bad news broke that my houses was washed away, I was at the market selling bananas. I immediately rushed to my home. Only tears could explain how I felt that time. But now, I am relieved by this new home. I believe everything is going to be good from now”, she said.

Thanking the Almighty Lord, she added: “May the Almighty God grant Heaven to our President Kagame, nothing else I can request for him.”
